Swancon 50 says "Tin Duck Nominations Open
We are now accepting nominations for the best works of Western Australia Speculative Fiction and Spec Fic related creative endeavors from the calendar year of 2025.

Nominations from any past or present member of Swancon are invited from now until 11.59pm (WA time) on April 30 for both fan and professional works in the following cateories:

Fiction - Long Form

Fiction - Short Form

Non-fiction

Artwork

Production

Game

For the purposes of the Tin Duck awards ‘Production’ is given to mean any work that has been produced but does not specifically fit into any of the other existing categories. Any collected work, zine, journal, audio or audio visual work, event, or collection or series of such items may be considered a production.

New Category - Best WA Game
Due to the large number or outstanding games being produced currently in WA and the long history that Swancon has with the WA gaming community we are pleased to be introducing the new category of best game.

Absolutely gobsmacked to receive not one, but two awards at the Swancon Art Show!

Both were for "The Infinite Library" - a little story kiosk project I thought up one evening, loaded up with all the little bits of fiction I have shared here.

Inside the library-shaped shell is a Raspberry Pi3 and a M02 thermal printer, along with some scripts that I wrote to randomly print a story on the press of a button concealed as a part of the roof.

I received the "Judges Selection" and "Technical Innovation" prizes.

A huge thank-you to the Swancon49 Committee and Guests who made up the judging panel.

I will be bringing the Library to any (and all) cons I attend in the future, so that everyone can have a little story to read any time they need one.
