I managed to finish the scans of the new swatches last night, despite allergy-irritated eyes. I also started looking through the photos I took of everything and I'm not terribly happy with a few of them, mostly some quick attempts at UV shots.
One of the Diamines and four of the Iroshizukus turned out to be fluorescent. Not sure why I never checked them properly before. Diamine Sunshine Yellow, and Pilot Iroshizkuku Fuyu-gaki, Yama-budo, Momiji, and Kiri-same.
I have some skills. Photography isn’t one of them. But I do like taking phone pics of interesting #fountainpenink. Just my handwriting though. I feel swatches can overstate some ink qualities while underplaying others. Anyway, this is Wearingeul’s ‘The Great Sage Heaven’s Equal’. I think it’s part of their World Myths’ collection. It reminds me of Autumn…
I’ve also included a bonus pic of my #yorkghostmerchants ghosts. Just because I don’t see enough of them here. I think this might be quite a good pic.
Swatched all my Iroshizuku inks and got all the Diamine swatches scanned and photographed.
Scans are great, but as usual fail to show a significant amount of the ink behavior like sheen/shimmer well. Similar story with photographs in the light tent. The light being so even, it's hard to get good reflections. So I used a handheld light panel and different angles. Between both it should be plenty.
Editing all of those should keep me busy
Anyone have any good tips for flattening out ink swatch cards? Other than "stick them in a book and wait a few days"?
I have a stack of older ones smashed between some wood blocks and clamps right now which I'm hoping might be OK. I don't have a book press or anyplace to store one, but that also seemed like a promising option.
Most general methods for paper flattening involve moisture and heat, and I doubt the moisture part would play well with water-based inks.
Spent the entire evening swatching all 13 of my Diamine inks that I hadn't swatched yet. 3 swatch cards + chromatography strip for all of them, which took quite a lot of time between that and cleaning between inks.
No photos/scans yet as I'm letting them all dry at least overnight. Not sure how I'm going to handle them still.
Might tackle my Iroshizukus tomorrow.
