In preparation for tomorrows Bandcamp Friday (for info on what this is, and why you should wait till one comes along, Bandcamp's definition follows at the bottom of this message) I wanted to share 5 songs I now have on regular rotation I discovered whilst wandering through searching for something to listen too, and meandered through so much undiscovered treasure.
1. There is a saved place - Out-lines. This is a spoken word, song, poem, lament, that I really enjoy. It starts my playlist, and captures something I love.
2. Feel better - Bliss. This shoegaze indie song by 3 students in Beirut is amazing. Haunting, raw, and then heavy thrashy. So glad I discovered them
3. Rhodonite and Grief - La dispute. A great, frantic, poetic track full of emotion and quite calm from this post-hardcore band. I have a few of their albums now. No idea how I have missed them till now, but this track is sublime.
4. Chains - Opus Kink. Came across this Brighton band thanks to a local record label owner. Funky, crunky, brilliant. Really fun to listen to and full of energy and life.
5. Dreamer - Just Mustard. Another haunting indie song but more electronic, and the singer's voice is so beautiful and unique. I am really enjoying the whole album.
Its worth noting, I never came across these groups whilst on streaming platforms. The algorythms that make some musicians rich hid these from my view. Thanks to ditching streaming and putting in some work, I have found new music I love, and the artists have benefitted. I have a queue for tomorrow waiting to purchase.
Get out there and find new wonderful music! And help the artists even more by buying on a Bandcamp Friday.
BANDCAMP FRIDAYS.
On Bandcamp Fridays, we waive our revenue share fee during each fundraiser window to support artists and labels. This started as a way to help artists affected by COVID-19 and the lack of touring income. We've continued to do it because it is still our goal to make Bandcamp the best place for fans and artists to come together and sustain each other, even as the pandemic has waned.
