The Philadelphia Inquirer joins other publications in being banned from my news feed.

I clicked on a link and was shown a "subscribe or die!" dialog.

Why on Earth should I subscribe??? I don't seek this news source. There just was one article I was interested in.

Given that I cannot read its articles without subscription, and that subscribing does not make any sense for me, the only logical conclusion is to kick them out.

Be careful what you wish for. You might get it, but not in the way you were anticipating.

Elizabeth nails it!
My paraphrase of the points that hit home with me:
I won't enter my email to read a free article. Find a new biz model, I don't care. If I get paywalled after a few reads from the same zine, sure...I should probably subscribe. But one-off pieces from a Tech Journal? Nope. newspaper article that was pushed to me? Stop it. Wireservices? Oh heck no.

I don’t want to log in to your website

There’s no public commons on the web. It’s a race to the bottom, and the bottom is gross. You want me to log in to read? I think I simply will not read.
