Put together a new action for the Capture One Stream Deck plugin mostly while on set today. It shows the current camera settings, and optionally whether they're high or low from a saved value.

My Stream Deck is dieing and I am not replacing it

Back in 2022, I paid $115 for a gently used Elgato Stream Deck. At the time, I was spending two to three hours a day in Zoom meetings (something that has changed significantly since), and I convinced myself that having physical controls within arm’s reach would be a real productivity boost. In theory, it made sense: quick access to mute, camera toggles, scene changes, maybe even a few custom shortcuts. In practice, it turned out not to be useful at all. I assumed I’d be able to embed my video and audio controls in it with minimal friction, but that proved far more frustrating than expected. I was deep in optimizing my work-from-home setup, and this was one of those purchases that felt smart at the moment but missed the mark entirely.

I honestly couldn’t tell you the last time I actually used it. About six months ago, the screens on the buttons started glitching – not catastrophically, just enough to be irritating every time I noticed. This would normally be the point where I’d start researching replacements, comparing models, and talking myself into another upgrade. Instead, I think I’m just going to let it die. When it finally gives up completely, I’ll dispose of it and move on. Not every piece of tech needs a replacement cycle, and this one never really earned its place on my desk in the first place.

#StreamDeck

My monthly round up post for February is *finally* out. A new #Alfred workflow, a new #hamradio antenna, a #StreamDeck plugin update, and the usual forum stuff, recommendations and additional curiosities. And still 100% free, though a coffee is always a tasty bonus ☕🤩

Has anyone used one of the aliexpress #streamdeck clones on linux?

I see software support for actual stream decks but I don’t know if it’s possible to get a clone going.

It seems I ditched #Spotify just in time.

They just sent an email about a development blog post from February which nobody read, that they are going to limit what you can do with their API effective March 9.

I used to have 3 apps in "development" mode, allowing me to access it from my Elgato #StreamDeck, #HomeAssistant and a local website to conveniently have it integrated where I needed it.

I guess they don't like that anymore, stating that "[Development mode] is intentionally limited and should not be relied on as a foundation for building or scaling a business on Spotify".

I read that as "If you do not intend to make us any additional money, GTFO."

The fact that having API access at all requires a premium account now reinforces that impression.

Well, I do not intend to build a business with Spotify. So farewell, greedy capitalist platform.

It was fun until the AI music started to creep in.

My #streamdeck plugin now supports CoreAudio making it more reliable. will add support for more audio tools as well. #rode
