"...Urban development and industrialization led to Detroit’s wetlands being filled in...[but] when such an area receives excess rainfall, “water is going to naturally collect where it thinks the river or channel is supposed to be...”

In 2005, the Clear Lake Water Authority bought the land of an adjacent golf course, with a vision to create five massive detention ponds.
Each could hold 100 million gallons of stormwater! That's 750 Olympic-sized swimming pools! 🏊♂️ #StormwaterManagement

These outdated rainfall numbers are having real, observable effects on stormwater mitigation efforts in the planning world as infrastructure is undersized as soon as it is installed. Thanks!
Every city and town needs a #StormwaterManagement plan. Mine got help from some water experts who also knew how to write local ordinances, and now every time you build something, or even add a shed to your back yard, you have to remedy the increased runoff. There's a bunch of rules for new development, etc. It's really cool. Maybe it helps downstream towns more than local residents, but it needs to be done.
