Am very impressed with what Cambridge company Cardozo Kindersley Workshop are doing in London. A team of expert letercutters are cutting directly into the Portland stone wall of the National Gallery in Trafalgar Square. A job you have to get right first time!

We used big 2 inch chisels and nylon mallets, although some of us opted for smaller chisels and our usual letter cutters dummy for setting in, cutting the serifs and finishing the thins. This was the first time we had used tethers for our tools - Vince was a big fan as he could boing the mallet up into his hand! • There were five of us cutting on the first day, we had plenty of room to spread out and take a letter each. We had to move the scissor lift up and down as we worked meaning that we had to cut some aspects of our letters in an unusual order as we took a popular vote on working height at any one time. • Stay tuned for more progress shots! • @roxkindersley @j_mawby @feeownahboyd @ebunton96 • #davidkindersley #davidkindersleyworkshop #cardozokindersleyworkshop #lidakindersley #lettering #lettercutting #lettercarving #stonecarving #lettercutter #portlandstone #portland #artisan #art #type #typography #cambridge #cambridgeart #cambridgeartist #carving #stone #craft #commission #handmade #handcrafted #madebyhand #nationalgallery #london #sainsburywing #NG200 #trafalgarsquare".
Just found a pic I took of William Blake's grave in Bunhill Fields Burial Ground (London) back in 2018. I didn't realise at the time but this was only 1 week after it was formally laid. It was created by Lida Cardozo - more on the graves history here: https://memoirsofametrogirl.com/2018/08/05/william-blake-gravestone-bunhill-fields-unveiled-2018-history/
What is a good book on gravestone lettering?
