At the RSS conference last week, I had the pleasure of speaking alongside Andy Field, Rhys C Jones, and Margaret MacDougall about the process of book writing and publishing!

This talk will share my personal experiences of writing and publishing a book as a scholarly activity. It will cover engaging with publishers, contracts, the writing process, and the benefits and challenges of book writing as an early career academic.
I had a fabulous time at the RSS conference in Edinburgh this week with lots of excellent talks and time spent catching up with people I don't get to see often enough!

Thanks to those who came along to today's RSS Manchester session about teaching data wrangling with {messy}. There were so many useful questions at the end - my to-do list just got longer!

In this session, I'll introduce the 'messy' R package designed to introduce controlled levels of messiness into existing, clean datasets. This package allows you to retain the structure and simplicity of familiar example datasets while providing students with a realistic, manageable data cleaning experience.
I'm really looking forward to delivering this talk about creating data for teaching and testing using the {messy} package in July for the RSS Manchester Local Group!

The {messy} R package takes a clean dataset, and randomly adds mess to create data more similar to that which you'd find in the real world. This is an easy way for educators to create data sets that give students the opportunity to practice their data wrangling skills without having to change all of their examples.
