Are you aware of the Georgian people’s ongoing resistance to their authoritarian government? After demonstrating every night for over a year, the people are now denied the right to do that. The government recently made it illegal to demonstrate in the streets. Then, when the demonstrations continued on sidewalks, the government instituted the requirement to get a permit 5 days in advance and to only demonstrate in assigned areas. Still, under threat of arrest and imprisonment, the people continue to fight for a place in the community of liberal democracies. @koteisaev, in Tbilisi, is doing a great job cross-posting Georgian Bluesky accounts to Mastodon. I think the Georgian people’s heroism, like that of the Ukrainian people, could be an inspiration to those who wonder whether it’s possible to oppose the authoritarian tides rising their countries.
