When AI Confidence Leads to Human Error

Dr. Stephen M. Fiore discusses how overreliance on AI and automation bias create hidden safety risks. When humans assume AI is correct, small errors can cascade.

The full episode explores how people and AI coordinate in complex, high-stakes environments โ€” including space missions.

Blue Originโ€™s planned TeraWave constellation highlights how satellite communications are increasingly part of enterprise and government resilience strategies.

High-capacity space networks can reduce dependence on terrestrial links, but they also expand the attack surface - across satellites, ground infrastructure, and control systems.

How should security models evolve as space becomes part of core network architecture?

Call for papers

Call for Papers 2025 Security for Space Systems (3S) Conference fosters information exchange among researchers and practitioners on cutting-edge research and innovations in space systems security. The 2025 3S Conference will take place in ESA ESTEC, Noordwijk (The Netherlands), from 4 to 6 November 2025. The target audience includes everyone interested in the different aspects of space systems security. Authors are encouraged to write the abstract and introduction of their paper in a way that makes the results accessible and compelling to a general security researcher. All submissions will be reviewed by the Program Committee and accepted submissions will be published by IEEE in the Proceedings of the conference.

Space junk, also known as space debris, are objects left behind by humans in space. These objects include fragments from rockets, satellites, space machinery, as well as inoperable satellites orbiting Earth.

Want to learn more about what is space junk, how orbital mechanics plays a role, the possible effects on space exploration, and how we โ€œtake out the trashโ€? Check out Spaced Out Doc's blog!
