Turns out these cables break often. LOOKING AT YOU ARIENS BRAND snowblowers!!!! Will order a couple of each side to keep on hand now. #Ariens #Snowblower
I just spent 45 minutes playing with my #SnowBlower and cleaned up about 70% of yesterday's snow. It is currently -27°C so I ran out of body heat before battery juice. But it's sunny with bright blue skies so it only feels like -31°C with the windchill.
Electric Snowblower Clears The Way With Hobby Parts

If you live in snow country and own a home, you either have a snowblower or wish you did. The alternatives are either an expensive and potentially unreliable plow service, or back-breaking (and hea…

Hackaday

@Satori

Yup, it's a workout all right. We must have gotten on the low end of the estimate for amount of snow, because it's wasn't *too* bad. I was out with the snowblower for 1:40 this morning, and I'll go back and do a real clean/scrape with a shovel later this afternoon.

We've been pretty fortunate so far this year. I've shovelled a number of times, but this was the first time I needed to get out the snowblower this season.

So here in southern #Saskatchewan, we were predicted to get the " #Alberta #clipper " blizzard earlier today - the one that hammered #Edmonton (Hi, @Satori !). It didn't arrive when predicted. Instead we got freezing rain for most of the day, and then the storm rolled in after dinner tonight.

Because my neighbourhood is on the edge of town, in the direction of the prevailing winds, and because my street faces that direction, and I'm at the end of the cul-de-sac, the wind brings snow for miles, drives it down my street, and dumps it in my driveway. If a storm dumps 5cm of fresh snow, it is not uncommon for my driveway to be hip-deep in snow. [1]

Well, this storm is supposed to dump 10 to 20 cm by morning, with "potential higher local amounts".

So tomorrow I expect I will be spending several hours outside with the snowblower, trying to manhandle it around on a slope with a solid coating of ice under the snow. Sheesh.

[1] The day we moved into this place, as we're carrying boxes in, a neighbour came over to introduce themselves, but the first thing they said wasn't "Hello" or even their name. It was "You have a snowblower, right?" I thought it was funny, until the next two neighbours did exactly the same thing.

Good Morning #Canada
I'm relaxing in front of a fireplace with some freshly brewed coffee and watching the Weather Network map animation loop endlessly showing the forecasted snow that will hit us in the next 24 hours. It's hypnotic and distracts you from thinking about the 25-30cm expected accumulation. If you love snow, Canada is the place to be. In fact, almost two-thirds (65%) of Canada's land mass has annual snow cover for more than six months of the year. I read that on the internet, so it's true. I'll be one of the 24% of Canadians who own a #SnowBlower throwing the white stuff everywhere, including back into my face. About half of Canadian households on the east coast own a Snow Blower versus 7% in British Columbia. Apparently, 51% of residents in Barrie use snow clearing machines, which is a statistic I should have paid attention to when we decided to move into this area.

Blowing snow - Statistics Canada

Winter is tightening its icy grip on Canada and most of the country is now covered with snow. About one in four Canadian households (24%) told us they had a snow blower to clear their driveway or sidewalk in 2021, with that number rising to over half in the snow bound cities of St. John’s in Newfoundland and Labrador, and Greater Sudbury and Barrie in Ontario.
