🇨🇦 Canadian Word of the Day: Gitch/Ginch

Primarily heard in Western Canada, 'gitch,' 'ginch,' or 'gotchies' are slang for underwear. This quirky term is thought to have Ukrainian roots, derived from the word 'gatky' (ґатки), which means pants or briefs. Its adoption into prairie slang is a direct result of the linguistic influence of Ukrainian immigration on regional Canadian English. #Canada #CanadianSlang #WordOfTheDay #Prairies

... or, if they're lazy, they find a roughly hare-shaped depression that happens to already exist 😆

I looked out my front window just now and saw this one enjoying the late afternoon sun while lying in an improvised form where the paving blocks have shifted and sunk, up against the edge of the poured concrete driveway. The stone and concrete were quite warm from sitting in the sun.

Sorry for the lousy photo - this was taken through a dirty window, and he sat up when I tried to snap him through the open door.

The storm seems mostly over; it was 20cm of heart-attack snow. I was out with the snowblower for about an hour and a half. It may have been the second-biggest storm of the winter.

It's not unheard of in April on the prairies - in the time I've lived here, I've seen snow on the ground in every month of the calendar except July - but this much is definitely mostly unwelcome. We traditionally start saying things like "... but the farmers will appreciate the extra moisture" when this happens.

Oh, fantastic. The snow we're supposed to get tonight has been upgraded to a yellow warning:

> Snowfall with total amounts of 15 to 25 cm is expected.

That's 6-to-10 inches for the metrically-challenged. Also blizzard / white-out conditions. Whee!

I'm glad I didn't summerize my snowblower yet!
