Three years ago PM Rishi Sunak cut a deal with President Macron for France & the UK to work together to reduce 'small boat' crossing across the channel.

The agreement is about to end & its replacement has not been finalised as the French are concerned about UK demands for a great emphasis on intervention & less focus on safety.

As the UK covers 2/3 of the costs, the demand is essentially for better value for money....which is not going down well

Spent a good portion of today planning and purchasing hardware and lines for reefing on my tiny sailboat. I landed on something that is relatively low-cost, requires no drilling into the wooden boom, and should be quick to adjust on the water.

I feel like this is either a brilliant plan or a misguided attempt...the only way to know is when I try to rig it up later this week. 😬 🤞

I see the government's latest cunning plan in the policy to "stop the small boats" is to close one of the few remaining routes in which people can claim asylum without having to get on a small boat.
