A revolt broke out on British #SlaveShip #LittleGeorge on #ThisDayInHistory in 1730. The 96 Africans, intended for #RhodeIsland colony, managed to free themselves and made a gunpowder bomb to sink the ship. The crew surrendered and the Guineans escaped to freedom in #SierraLeone.
Over several days, due to low supplies and to file an insurance claim, the crew of British #SlaveShip #Zong systematically tossed at least 132 enslaved people into the Atlantic Ocean. On #ThisDayInHistory in 1783, Lord Chief Justice Lord Mansfield ruled this could not be murder.

The #ZongMassacre began on #ThisDayInHistory in 1781. A British #SlaveShip experienced navigation errors and ran low on water, so they began tossing #Africans overboard. They were insured, so the company lost no profits as more than 130 innocents were thrown into watery deaths.

Heute vor 250 Jahren wurde der britische Maler #WilliamTurner geboren.
