Greetings readers!

I’ve got some news for you, and it’s a sombre update on the search for Jay Slater. The web sleuths and conspiracy theorists, it turns out, were barking up the wrong tree. Sadly, Jay’s body has been discovered. It appears he simply slipped, fell down a ravine, and due to the isolated location, remained undiscovered for weeks. This eerily echoes the case of Michael Mosely in Greece.

However, this incident raises questions about the initial reports from the Spanish police, who implied Jay was still alive and had evidence to support this. It’s a reminder that organisations need to be mindful of their communications, as even the smallest snippet of information can fuel wild theories online.

Speaking of wild theories, it seems the web sleuths were starting to tire of the Jay Slater mystery, with their conjectures becoming increasingly far-fetched. But fear not, they’ve now latched onto a new case that reads like a thriller novel.

Enter Yostin Andres Mosquera. If you haven’t heard, Yostin is a 34-year-old Colombian who recently embarked on a curious journey from London to Bristol by train, followed by a taxi ride to the Clifton Suspension Bridge. Nothing unusual, right? Perhaps he was just sightseeing?

Well, here’s where it takes a dark turn. Upon arrival at the bridge, Yostin was spotted attempting to throw two suitcases over the side. This bridge, notorious for past incidents, is equipped with cameras and high fences. When challenged by staff, Yostin bolted, pursued by a cyclist. The staff inspected the suitcases and made a grisly discovery – body parts!

Naturally, whispers of the Colombian Cartel began swirling, especially after Yostin muttered to the cyclist, “my boss is a bad man.” But the whole affair seems amateurish, doesn’t it? Taking public transport with suitcases of body parts, then trying to dispose of them in such a public place?

The police investigation led to a flat in Shepherd’s Bush, London, where more body parts were found. The victims have been identified as Albert Alfonso, 62, and Paul Longworth, 71 – once a couple, still cohabiting. Yostin, in an equally amateur move, was apprehended while trying to return to London via Bristol’s main train station.

Online chatter is buzzing. Albert’s Flickr account features many photos of Yostin over the years. Yostin moved over from Columbia and lived with Albert and Paul, leading some to speculate about a love triangle. Others draw parallels to stories of elderly individuals returning from places like Egypt with young spouses who vanish after securing a visa. Some suggest Yostin was sent by ‘bosses’ to extort money before disposing of Albert and Paul. However, given their modest circumstances, they seem unlikely targets for such a scheme.

It’s still too early to determine what exactly transpired in that flat and why. The nature of Yostin’s stay in the UK and the events leading up to this tragedy remain a mystery. Yet, it certainly provides rich material for my sequel to “Rabbit Fever”!

What do you think, readers? Have you heard about this story, and what are your thoughts on what really happened? Let’s discuss!

Hey everyone,

I’ve been captivated by the unfolding stories from Tenerife, where beneath its sun-drenched allure, a complex tapestry of intrigue and tragedy unravels. True crime tales abound, but the narratives emerging from this Spanish island possess a depth that demands our collective scrutiny.

Consider the perplexing case of Jay Slater – missing under suspicious circumstances, with law enforcement dropping hints about undisclosed leads. Speculation swirls around potential ties to a significant drug debt, compounded by the murky details of a GoFundMe campaign launched in his name, stirring both concern and suspicion.

Then there’s the enigmatic disappearance of Ryan Cooney, a 28-year-old Irishman who vanished last November, only to reappear months later battered and bruised. Apparently linked to Jay through shared social circles, his sudden reappearance coincided with the unexpected success of another dubious GoFundMe initiative, hinting at a pattern of exploitation that defies conventional understanding.

Adding to the intrigue are the tragic murders of Belgian pensioners in Tenerife, like Laura Trappeniers and Marc Olbrechts (also known as Laura Gaston and Marc Francis). Laura’s dismembered remains were shockingly discovered in the sea, casting a chilling shadow over the island’s reputation.

Then there’s Olivia Gimeno, whose tragic fate remains hauntingly etched in the island’s memory.

These incidents aren’t isolated. They point to a disturbing trend of criminal activity, where even vulnerable demographics aren’t spared. Consider Roger Clark, a 77-year-old Englishman caught smuggling millions in cocaine. His audacious methods included using cruise ships to transport drugs, with a number of trips via Tenerife, revealing a glimpse into the clandestine operations thriving under the sunny surface.

Moreover, whispers of police corruption add another layer to Tenerife’s dark underbelly. Allegations of compromised investigations and withheld information swirl around high-profile cases, raising questions about the integrity of law enforcement on the island.

These unsettling events beg the question: Is there a deeper, darker reality lurking beneath Tenerife’s idyllic exterior?

Join me in unpacking this mystery. What are your thoughts on these developments? Do they hint at a broader pattern of criminal activity and corruption in Tenerife?

Let’s uncover the truth together.

Hello, again readers!

Following on from my post yesterday about websleuths and their involvement in the Jay Slater case, I’ve stumbled upon a fascinating phenomenon. It seems that websleuths gravitate to certain platforms and tend to look down on those using others. I don’t know about you, but I find this both entertaining and intriguing.

We’re all familiar with the various social media sites, from Reddit to Twitter (or X, as it’s now known) to Facebook, and how each has its unique flavour. But what’s truly interesting is the hierarchy of websleuths that has emerged.

Let’s start with Reddit. Users here often see themselves as the elite sleuths, the crème de la crème of online investigators. There are countless comments about people “conducting investigations,” and some even claim (though who knows if it’s true) to have “interviewed key contacts” and passed this information to the Spanish police. Now, I’m not so naive as to believe all of these posts, and frankly, if I were the Spanish police, I’d be less than thrilled to receive amateur interview transcripts from Redditors. What’s also fascinating is how Reddit users disparage those on Facebook who are trying to do the same thing. Comments like “Facebook users need to stop, they’re complicating the investigation” and “We don’t need amateurs muddying the waters” are common. It’s as if to comment on a Reddit missing persons post, you need some sort of “online investigator credentials.”

Yes, I’m aware of the “Don’t F*** with Cats” story, where Reddit played a significant role in solving the case, but I’m still sceptical about what qualifies someone as a “premier websleuth” versus others on different platforms.

Next, let’s turn to those conducting their investigations via Snapchat and Instagram. It must be a strange time to be on holiday in Tenerife, as hordes of armchair detectives are scouring Snapchat and Instagram maps, trawling through friends’ lists, and trying to find anyone loosely connected to the story or those who might have been in the same place where Jay went missing. This has even led to people creating fake accounts with names they expect others to look for, just to spread misinformation (though why someone on holiday would bother to do this is beyond me).

Then there’s TikTok, where something equally curious is happening. Yes, there are loads of videos about the story and people’s theories, but what’s odd is the number of people trying to gain traction by announcing, “I’ve met up with X contact, we’re going live in an hour,” or “Latest update at X time.” I’m not sure if these folks genuinely believe they’re helping or are just trying to rack up views.

Finally, we have Facebook, where it seems like the world has gone mad. People are sharing what they think is helpful information or suggestions on what could be done. For example, those using Google Street View claim to have found something, forgetting that Google Street View isn’t a live feed, or those suggesting water should be left by the roadside to “tempt Jay out of the bushes.” I don’t doubt these people are well-meaning, but it’s as if they’ve lost all sense of reality (which might explain why Redditors look down on them).

This leads me to ponder: is there really a hierarchy of websleuths? Are they genuinely working to solve the mystery, or are they simply seeking attention? And more importantly, what would these websleuths have done before the internet and social media? How would they have conducted their investigations and connected with like-minded people?

What do you think, dear readers?

Reddit vs. Facebook: The Battle of the Websleuths in Tenerife

Hello, again readers! Following on from my post yesterday about websleuths and their involvement in the Jay Slater case, I’ve stumbled upon a fascinating phenomenon. It seems that websleuths gravit…

My writing journey . . .

I thought I’d pop in with an extra post today to share a quick update on the Jay Slater case. It’s one of those situations where truth is indeed proving to be stranger than fiction!

In the past 24 hours, there have been several developments, the most remarkable being the discovery of a Scottish man, lost in the Tenerife mountains, by the searchers looking for Jay. They’ve successfully rescued him, which is a silver lining. But it does make me wonder, how many people venture into the Tenerife mountains wearing only shorts and trainers and think it’s a sensible idea? It brings to mind that old UK government campaign about ‘how to behave on holiday,’ with the memorable tagline, ‘if you wouldn’t do it at home, don’t do it on holiday.’

Back to Jay. Since my last post, there’s been a whirlwind of activity. Firstly, the Spanish police have stated that they are now ‘investigating links to his background.’ This background has piqued significant interest in the UK because, a year or so ago, Jay and several other gang members were convicted for a machete attack. This has sparked a debate: should we be helping him? It’s a tough one. Obviously, attacking people with machetes is inexcusable, but once someone has served their sentence, shouldn’t there be a chance for redemption? Anyway, the victim of the attack has now urged everyone to stop focusing on the past and to concentrate on finding Jay. However, the Spanish police seem to think there’s something worth digging into. This suspicion is fuelled by those involved in the search, who can’t understand why he hasn’t been found if he’s where he’s supposed to be. Even retired UK police detectives are suggesting that this should have been treated as a murder investigation from the start.

Then we have the intriguing matter of family connections. Now, I have no idea how accurate this is, but it’s gaining traction online. Brace yourselves for this one…

Remember Karen Matthews? In the UK, she’s almost as infamous as Myra Hindley and Rose West. After Madeleine McCann’s disappearance, Karen concocted a scheme to hide her daughter, Shannon, and then pretend she had been kidnapped, hoping a family member would ‘find’ her and claim the reward money. The police quickly saw through this and she ended up in prison. She’s now released and living under a new identity.

Well, according to internet sleuths, Jay’s mum is Karen Matthews’ stepsister. And get this: Lucy Mae’s dad is reportedly dating Karen Matthews (under her new identity). Whether this is true or not, the resemblance between the two women is uncanny, and it could explain Lucy Mae’s sudden appearance on the scene. If these stories hold any water, it wouldn’t be the first time this family has tried to scam ransom money.

Now, the pièce de résistance: the GoFundMe page. It’s changed again this morning, now being promoted as a ‘reward for information’ instead of ‘help the family get over’ or ‘assist with the search.’ Many online are jumping to conclusions, but this does seem increasingly complex. Why is it so hard to clarify what the money is for? And are all those who donated to ‘help with the search’ happy that their contributions are now apparently a reward? If the speculated links are true, how can donors be sure who this ‘reward’ will end up with?

What do you think, readers? Is this getting stranger by the day, or is it just the brief spell of heat we’re having in the UK that’s getting to me?
