Time is fundamental to understanding the position of a star in our sky.

Our clocks follow Earth’s rotation relative to the Sun. But how do we measure time relative to the stars?

In this tutorial series, I explore Sidereal Time, how to predict which stars you see, and how to build a star plot step by step, including converting the math into JavaScript for creative coding.

Sidereal Time & The Rotating Sky — ideabile

@SaveStandard @rberger
There's nothing special about the choice of dividing up the Earth into 24 regions and dictating that #clocks in each region shall be set one hour different from adjacent regions. There is no reason why we shouldn't all set our clocks identically and simply learn that it gets light and dark at different times in different places. (BTW, this was a rejected option when standard time was being invented.)
To avoid all this local nonsense my vote goes to #SiderealTime :-)
