Universal aging clock predicts death risk across multiple mammalian species

What's common between rats, humans, dogs and dolphins? We are all mammals, and one day will be the last day of our lives. A multinational team of researchers have now given us a powerful molecular clock that, with the help of biological markers, can predict age as well as the risk of death in mammals.

Russian Vostok submarine clock tucked away in a giant pile o'junk at a local estate sale (which apparenlty only includes the garage and the cars...). They are kinda nifty. (this one in Camarillo, way on the back end of Camarillo Hills) #clocks

Little Ben is a miniature clock tower found outside Victoria Station, London. In design it mimics its much larger cousin, the Westminster clock tower colloquially known as Big Ben. The following poem is carved on Little Ben:

"My hands you may retard or may advance,
My heart beats true for England as for France."

This refers to a plan to run the clock only on Daylight Saving Time, meaning it would be correct for England in the winter months and France in the summer. However, Little Ben follows British Summer Time in summer and Greenwich Mean Time in winter, like all other clocks in the UK. The clock was unveiled in 1892, with the idea that those rushing for trains at Victoria would be able to see the time as Big Ben was not visible from the station. An interesting myth about Little Ben is that it was designed as a ventilation shaft for a nearby underground lavatory. #time #railway #railways #London #gothic #history #clocks #architecture #weird #folklore #urban #psychogeography
