The overabundance of guns is not a readily fixable problem. When Australia cracked down on #guns, they did a buyback and narrowly controlled new sales. A buyback in the US would be incredibly expensive.

But the "shoot first" problem can be addressed. We probably can't get rid of #ShootFirst laws in right wing states, but federal #CivilRights laws could be passed (next time Democrats control the House and enough seats in the Senate) that narrow the definition of reasonable #fear, and criminalize the use of deadly force in cases of UNreasonable fear.

Shoot someone for knocking on your door? Maybe no state charges because of shoot first laws, but federal prison for violating the victim's right to personal safety.

Part of the political #messaging in criminalizing unreasonable use of deadly force should be "not just guns, but any deadly force", to defuse the gun nuts' arguments.
