AI actually is causing a lot of unemployment in tech.
Not because it has been able to successfully replace anyone's job, but because the big tech companies are all gambling so much on becoming trillionaires that they have to throw tens of thousands of workers into unemployment to pay for it.

I guess kudos for being up front that it’s a time-boxed thing, rather than other “free for FOSS devs” things that are initially presented as long-term, but ultimately get rug pulled.

Great parallel. I already spend much time reviewing AI code b/c my current employer actually tracks whether or not engineers are using AI to “boost their productivity”.
The job’s clearly changing and I wonder where we’ll end up. Agents are still terrible at building good APIs but… clients may not care if they don’t use these APIs at all: their machines will.
I fear we chose quantity over quality here, again, even if the LLMs will improve.
