“Oggi, lo Shabak, l’agenzia di intelligence israeliana, ha informato il team legale di Adalah che gli attivisti e leader della Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF), Thiago Ávila e Saif Abukeshek, saranno rilasciati dalla detenzione israeliana oggi, sabato 9 maggio 2026″, ha fatto sapere in una nota la ong Adalah. “Saranno consegnati più tardi oggi alle autorità israeliane per l’immigrazione e resteranno in custodia in attesa della loro deportazione”.
Adalah ha fatto sapere che “sta monitorando attentamente gli sviluppi per assicurarsi che il rilascio dalla detenzione avvenga regolarmente, seguito dalla loro espulsione da Israele nei prossimi giorni”.
Ávila e Abukeshek sono stati sequestrati nelle prime ore del 30 aprile e sono stati detenuti illegalmente da Israele per oltre una settimana. Secondo la denuncia della ong, “durante tutta la detenzione sono stati tenuti in completo isolamento, in condizioni punitive, nonostante la natura puramente civile della loro missione. Entrambi gli attivisti sono in sciopero della fame da allora, e Abukeshek ha aggravato la protesta rifiutando anche l’acqua dalla sera del 5 maggio”.

Today, Israeli intelligence agency Shabak informed Adalah’s legal team that activists and leaders of the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF), Thiago Ávila and Saif Abukeshek, will be released from Israeli detention today, Saturday, May 9, 2026,” the NGO Adalah stated in a note. “They will be handed over later today to Israeli immigration authorities and will remain in custody pending their deportation.”

Adalah stated that “it is closely monitoring developments to ensure that the release from detention occurs regularly, followed by their expulsion from Israel in the coming days.”

Ávila and Abukeshek were seized in the early hours of April 30th and have been illegally detained by Israel for over a week. According to the NGO’s complaint, “during their entire detention, they were kept in complete isolation, in punitive conditions, despite the purely civil nature of their mission. Both activists have been on a hunger strike since then, and Abukeshek has escalated the protest by also refusing water since the evening of May 5th.”
