#ForestFriday from the northern California redwoods, where stately Coast Redwood (Sequoia sempervirens) is surrounded by a dense forest understory of ferns, sorrel, and little shrubs.

Photographed along the Boyscout Tree Trail in Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park last year in May. The trail is ~5 miles out and back if I recall, and leads to an impressive old-growth tree before it ends at a little waterfall. Worth the hike!

#silentsunday One of the quietest places in the world is inside a hollowed out old-growth coastal #redwood tree. ๐ŸŒฒ

Step inside. Surrounded by many feet of wood, sounds of the world fade and leave a silence filled with breath and heartbeat.

Historically, fires ๐Ÿ”ฅ burned through these groves, burning center deadwood out and leaving blackened-but-living outer wood.

Look at the range of color inside one of these giants. #trees #naturephotography #SequoiaSempervirens

In a serendipitous turn of events, I am at the #AvenueOfTheGiants on #ThickTrunkTuesday. This is one of my favorite places on earth. Here is a #CoastRedwood from the Avenue.
