Helen ClaytonL’arbre d’or, the golden tree, stands in the Val sans Retour, the valley of no return, in the forest of Broceliande in Brittany. Broceliande is known for its Arthurian legends but the golden tree is a memorial to the forest destroyed in a fire in 1990. This chestnut was one of the last trees to burn and was then covered in gold leaf to stand as a monument and to symbolise hope.
