Can anyone recommend a book to me that is all about someone having a deep connection to the small area they are **from**. A sense of place and belonging.
Alan Garner's The Stone Book Quartet springs to mind.
Something that tries to express how someone is a product of the geology, soils, vegetation, food, climate, community and their ancestors. Similar to *terrioir* but for humans not wine.
I come from a small village in Somerset in England. I can trace my family tree back at least 300 years by just reading names on gravestones in the churchyard. Having an unusual surname helps there. My father and grandfather told me all about the village and its surroundings and how my family shaped the village as labourers and how the village shaped them in turn. I have not lived there for over 20 years but I dream about where I am from most nights. I am still homesick for my village.

In Friesland, aan de Slachtedyk bij Oosterbierum, start binnenkort de bouw van een indrukwekkend 'icoon-project': Dijk van een Wijf, een levend landschapskunstwerk van Nienke Brokke. Het krijgt enorme dimensies: 65 meter lang, 11 meter breed en 11 meter hoog.
Dijk van een Wijf: Een levend landschap kunstwerk 🍀 🚧 Aan de Slachtedyk bij Oosterbierum start binnenkort de bouw van een indrukwekkende icoonproject: Dijk van een Wijf. Dit landschapskunstwerk krijgt enorme dimensies: 65 meter lang, 11 meter breed en 11 meter hoog. Het kunstwerk wordt een met inheemse kruiden en grassen begroeid vrouwenlichaam, liggend en uitgestrekt in het weidse landschap. Dijk van een Wijf is een initiatief van Stichting Sense of Place en ontworpen door beeldend kunstenaar Nienke Brokke. Het kunstwerk symboliseert de diepe verbinding tussen mens en natuur in het Waddengebied. 🔎 Het kunstwerk wordt opgebouwd als gewapende grondconstructie. Extra uitdaging was de sterk heterogene ondergrond, waardoor normaal grondonderzoek veelal niet betrouwbaar was. Daarom is gekozen om een voorbelasting toe te passen met uitgebreide monitoring van de zettingen. De resultaten leveren betrouwbare uitgangspunten voor het ontwerp. 🟢 Naue is verantwoordelijk voor het ontwerp van de gewapende grondconstructie en de levering van de materialen met geogrids en erosiematten. Voor het ontwerp is het kunstwerk ingescand en verschaald naar een volledig 3D model. In tegenstelling tot traditionele gewapende grondconstructies is geen enkele wand recht, waardoor elk element afzonderlijk gemodelleerd is. 📗 De voorbelasting ligt er nog, maar eind Juli wordt door Molhoek Infratechniek B.V. begonnen met de opbouw van deze uitdagende gewapende grondconstructie.
