New Manga Read - Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You, Volume 2

After feeling uncomfortable about the age gap in Volume 1, when I saw Volume 2 at the library, I decided to give it another shot.

It's cute. It's a slow burn, pun intentional. It's still weird, to me, the strange obsession with our female lead in cashier mode.

But, it's well written, love the art, and the characters are engaging.

So, even as I find the age gap dynamic a little odd and unsettling, I still enjoyed the second volume.

We'll see if I read 3.

New Read - Smoking Behind the Supermarket With You, Volume 1

So, a lot of folks online have been reading this, apparently, so I saw Volume 1 at the library and picked it up. Also, a lot of folks I had followed on Insta (when I was there) gushed over this.

Premise: 45 year old business dude is kind of obsessed with a younger woman who checks him out at the grocery store. Another woman who works there (same woman, different hair style) asks to smoke with him. They chat outside while smoking together. He doesn't realize they're the same person.

Lecture du moment !

Je viens de terminer la série Jagaaan. C'est pas mal dans le genre manga edgy. Le dessin est très beau, mais le scénario un peu faible. La fin me semble parachutée apres un long combat qui fait trop "boss de la fin".

Enfin ! Ce manga traînait sur ma table basse depuis février (bon, faut dire que j'attendais la sortie du tome 2 pour les lire à la suite). Gou Tanabé continue avec force sa mise en illustration des œuvres de Lovecraft. Le trait est toujours acéré et vif, lourd quand le fantastique apparaît et pourtant si léger et précis dans les regards.

Bref, depuis un peu plus de deux ans, Tanabé est, pour moi, intimement relié à Lovecraft et ce, pour le meilleur.
