with my Mom and her partner yesterday. The verdict: Scout: great, Ohanami + Skyjo: good, but Seas of Strife: too mean for them.

My parents used to be gamers when I was growing up, but they haven't really played #boardgames for maybe 15-20 years and were surprised by how much fun they had and asked us to make it a regular activity.

When people get surprised they are having a good time, that's the best part about introducing gaming 😁

When I was teaching #SeasOfStrife at work, we used the original rules, not the boxed rules which are wrong (the scandinavian edition even has translation issues between the already wrong rules - further complicating things).

First game, somehow, the starting player lost by playing the 0 - becoming the highest card on the table lol.

So what makes this game really shine isn't winning; you can't really control that. What makes it shine is making others lose 😁 as you CAN control that!

I had a chance to finally bring out #SeasOfStrife after having it hyped to me repeatedly for three weeks.

Let me put it this way: I don't like trick-taking games and I especially don't like basic games unless they have a hidden depth or let me be super mean.

This game falls into exactly that category. A basic trick-taking game that anyone could learn in less than a minute.

AND I fucking loved it.

This game has earned a spot in my satchel project, together with #Scout and #BangTheDiceGame !

Played the Seas of Strife game yesterday — it’s an interesting spin on trick taking.

Elevator pitch:
- you are avoiding tricks
- there are eight suits, all of varying sizes (as small as four, as large as 11)
- you have to follow suits, but the winning suit is determined by majority suit, not the led suit

Altogether, it felt chaotic with five players but was an interesting space to explore. More plays needed. Which is a good vibe to leave!

Spätestens zur Spiel 23 in Essen, eventuell sogar früher, kommt bei uns Windjammern (die deutsche Version von "Seas of Strife").

Es handelt sich dabei um die Neuauflage des Amigo-Klassikers "Texas Showdown", der ja leider schon längere Zeit nicht mehr erhältlich ist.
Das Thema des Stichspiels hat sich vom Wilden Westen aufs Meer verlagert und wude von Beth Sobel illustriert.
