Inspected the #bees today & changed out their screened bottom board to a solid board. It was chaos. Lots of robbers came & we were rushing! We saw the #SaskatrazQueen though & eggs! Eggs (circled) are so hard for us to see, but I dared to take my glove off to take some pics. Then I got stung on the back of my thigh in a tender area! ๐Ÿ˜ซ We did see mites, hive beetles, & moth larvae, unfortunately. They have tons of honey &, shockingly, I saw bees bringing in small bits of pollen!

The #bees have a high varroa mite load, so we are treating the hive with a miticide for the next 20 days. Our forecast says we will be cool enough; fingers crossed ๐Ÿคž it stays that way! We last saw the #SaskatrazQueen last Sunday. #beekeeping ๐Ÿ ๐Ÿ ๐Ÿ
Full hive inspection today. #Bees a lot calmer & tolerant today than in early August. We've mostly left this hive alone all summer as they had fully drawn out comb to start with; now 12 full frames of capped honey. We saw the #SaskatrazQueen, but not sure she... #beekeeping /1
Colony inspection today. The #bees mostly filled the second deep, saw a lot of brood, larvae, & #honey ๐Ÿฏ in it. Didn't see the #SaskatrazQueen. They started with mostly drawn out comb, only a few frames were new. Decided to add a honey super with half-drawn out comb. #beekeeping
The #bees got an addition; I added a second deep box today. Inspection looked great with lots of larvae, & the emerald #SaskatrazQueen is alive & well. There will be a big increase in population in a couple of weeks, & they will need the room. Zoey came to supervise. #beekeeping
Okay, the colony combination was a success! We also removed partially drawn out/filled frames & consolidated into two deep brood boxes. There are plenty frames of half-capped honey & pollen. The #SaskatrazQueen is healthy & accounted for. All fed & #WinterReady! #Beekeeping ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ
Alright, I dont know if I did it correctly, but I combined our original #queenless colony with our queenright swarm colony utilizing a sheet of newspaper. Fingers crossed those #bees assimilate! ๐Ÿ˜ฌ ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ We are putting them back on team #SaskatrazQueen! #beekeeping
Meanwhile, our swarm hive is super busy! The #SaskatrazQueen is still laying brood like crazy, they are still drawing out new frames, but they don't have as much honey as we'd like. We are going to feed them as we are very obviously in a nectar dearth. ๐Ÿฏ๐Ÿ
Luckily we found the swarm queen (original marked queen that came with the nuc) in the bottom deep super and decided it was really helpful to catch the #SaskatrazQueen and keep her in a clip in the shade while we work. (I've sorta circled her so you can see...the #bees were protecting her. ๐Ÿ˜) /4
