My lightly-used 4TB Samsung T7 external SSD today exhibited the weird behaviour I’ve seen a few other people mention, where it starts only writing at about 2 MB/s and becomes unusably slow for reads if any writes are happening.

It feels like a firmware bug instead of a hardware issue, maybe related to TRIM or some other kind of optimisation it performs.

I bought the T7 because my older T5 has been brilliant, but after this weirdness with the T7 I might avoid Samsung SSDs.

Maybe a year ago I bought a fancy Samsung T7 2TB for my wife. Wanted to her to have something fast and reliable for her client work.

Turns out there's a problem with these drives. It's now maxed out writing at 2MB/s, instead of 1000MB/s. Still reads at normal speed, but writing is pretty much stuffed.

Slow clap Samsung. Yet another load of bollocks.

Trying to get a work around for this has wasted my afternoon and it's still not resolved.

If we plug MY T7 SSD into his 14" MacBook Pro, it mounts with no problem.

We've eliminated the drive as being the problem by showing it works on two other Macs, and we've eliminated his MacBook Pro as the problem by showing another very similar drive works just fine on it.

so...?

@yoyo308 Primeras impresiones, comparado con #Ubuntu2404 , el instalador de #Fedora es mucho más intuitivo, la instalación ha sido mucho más rápida y siento que se mueve más ligero. Visualmente me encanta porque es #Genome y es algo que conozco. Veredicto... se queda en el portátil y el siguiente paso es instalarlo en el #SamsungT7 del curro ¡¡¡
