@jdmcg You might say this jokingly but there are plenty of cheap sailboats available as well as people who would be onboard (pun intended) with this. I would have a few years ago, but we (my wife and I) had our sailing adventure a few years ago and are enjoying the landlubber life now. I am sure though you could find crew a qualified captain and a boat you could all together afford and just set off for the high seas. #sailpunk
@foufoutos Except in my novel it would be a #seasteading city and it will be in the #seapunk or #sailpunk subgenre of #solarpunk (haven't decided yet what is the best name for the sub genre based on sailboats, but apart from that exactly like solar punk) #workingonmynovel

The reason I am thinking of this so much lately is because I have an idea for a book or series of books set in a future/alternative reality where people built communities on the water using only renewable energy such as solar and wind. So it’s more related to solar punk or diesel punk (if that’s a real thing). With diesel punk I mean communies of people living in vans and trucks like the wagenplatz in Germany: https://duckduckgo.com/?q=wagenplatz #dieselpunk #wagenplatz #sailpunk #solarpunk

Actually the best word I can come up with us #sailPunk as it combines the #sailing technology and the #punk lifestyle/aesthetics (I agree punk is not an aesthetics or a lifestyle but I couldn’t think of a better description). It is like #solarPunk instead of #steamPunk (I really do not like steampunk) where as #oceanpunk seems to almost a sub genre of steampunk. And although #seaPunk is related to #cyberPunk which I appreciate it seems to exist only online.
I was thinking about how a friend living in a van (which has a diesel engine) described himself as a #dieselpunk. I thought now that I live on a sailboat I’d consider myself a #seapunk. Obviously I’ve discovered since that Seapunk is an #aesthetic and doesn’t have anything to do with a lifestyle or punk. I do feel u want to reclaim the term. And since the aesthetic seems to have run its course and kinda fizzled out it probably is ready to be recuperated. #cruisingLife #sailing #sailpunk
Fourth speaker seems to be talking about #geotagging of notable architecture. She quotes #ManuelCastells. A photo of a set of sails above a city. #SailPunk? Photos of white folks in period aristocratic costume, and of palatial built environments, The White Palace? A photo of the contrast between low-rise and high-rise housing, in China? Photos of an old, communal neighbourhood. She quotes #PeterHall and others. A video of lit-up city nightscapes with massive group dancing.

Sketch for a graphic novel I’m (very slowly) working on. As much as I love color, I think going black and white is the only way I’m likely to actually complete this thing, so I’m playing around with tinting.
