Since Monday, the #PleiadesGazetteer editorial college published 26 new and 207 updated place resources, reflecting the work of 12 people. The usual Monday blog post will summarize a full week's worth of such work, but meantime here's a #SneakPeek at one of the new ones. Authored by Tom Elliott (@[email protected]) and Divya Kumar-Dumas, we now have a place resource for Mamallapuram, an ancient settlement and modern town located on the east coast of peninsular India. It is the site of a large complex of Hindu temples dating to the 7th/8th centuries CE that is registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site: https://pleiades.stoa.org/places/119192778.
The city is mentioned in Tamil literature beginning in the 8th century CE. The exact location of the city's harbor and its possible identification with non-Tamil sources (especially Roman ones) remain inconclusive.

The usual Monday blog post will summarize a full week's worth of such work, but meantime here's a #SneakPeek at one user's contributions over the past few months (and continuing). Since joining the Pleiades team in 2025, Enes Yılandiloğlu has provided 488 new name entries for existing place resources (mostly in Ottoman Turkish, modern Turkish, and pre-19th century English), as well as 9 entirely new place resources.
