We wrapped up our imaging sessions for the Veil Nebula this week.

These images of the Dumbbell Nebula (M27) are some of our best work to date. Also, this project marks our first attempt at imaging a planetary nebula.

Here is the Triangulum Galaxy (M33) as seen from our light polluted NYC balcony. This image is the first result of several longer-term projects we have worked on for the past month.

Last night, we imaged the Hercules Globular Cluster (M13) while waiting for the Helix Nebula and Triangulum Galaxy to become visible from our balcony.

Here is our latest project after several weeks of terrible astrophotography weather. With a new AM5 mount, we were able to capture two- and three-minute subs. For comparison's sake, we chose to re-image the Lagoon and Trifid Nebulae.

Imaging by @alex #NYC #Bortle 9 / 110 x 120 and 180s subs, Sony a6300 (ISO 400) / Z61 (f5.9, 360 mm) /AM5 /ZWO asi120mm mini

These images of the Lagoon and Trifid Nebulae (M8 and M20, respectively) were only supposed to be test shots! It turns out that using a telescope on a stable surface instead of a dilapidated fire escape dramatically improves the quality of the final image.

I spent the afternoon stacking our images of the North America Nebula's Cygnus Wall (NGC 7000) from the past two nights. These photographs are unstretched (the second image was viewed using SIRIL's histogram function), but they highlight the limitations of our equipment and the challenges of NYC's light pollution levels.

Final edited images are forthcoming!

Three nights of imaging, one ISO error, and twelve hours of stacking later, we have successfully photographed the Pinwheel Galaxy! Our set-up is designed for nebula, not galaxies, so this feels like a significant accomplishment.

This photograph of the Flame and Horsehead Nebulae is a test image from our current long-term project and represents my first full test of SIRILIC's capabilities. Ideally, we will be able to capture several hours of additional data over the coming weeks to generate a highly detailed photograph.
