The North America Nebula
====================

This is my latest image of the North America Nebula, a vast emission region in Cygnus, about 2,600 light-years away. The resemblance to the North American continent is striking — even in the raw data, the “Gulf of Mexico” region glows vividly in hydrogen light.

Captured and processed in the HOO palette (Hydrogen–Oxygen–Oxygen), the image combines warm hydrogen tones with cool oxygen blues. This mapping brings out the delicate structures and ionization fronts hidden in the nebula — the areas where newborn stars sculpt their surroundings with light and wind.

The dark band cutting across the nebula is a dense molecular cloud (L935), blocking the light behind it. Inside these dusty regions, new stars are still forming — invisible in visible light but revealed through narrowband imaging.

Every time I process this region, I’m reminded of how alive our galaxy is — constantly building, shaping, and recycling itself.

Good Sunday morning. Weather is changing for the next 3 days so no early morning observations for a while. I set up the s50 to get 3 mosaics at #NGC7000 #TheNorthAmericanNebula. Total imaging time 7:30 hours. Again using Affinity Photo 2 to assemble the mosaics into 1 large image. #seestar #S50 #space #astronomy #amateur

Here is the last image from last night. It is a failed mosaic of #NGC7000 #NorthAmericanNebula. I did use my phone to adjust the brightness and contrast a bit. Though the observation is more than an hour, some time last night the s50 seems to have malfunctioned. I had to restart it just so I could locate other objects in the sky. Got the Seestar TH10 Fluid Tripod Head as well so set it up this afternoon and decided to give it a trial run. Here is a mosaic of #NGC7000 #NorthAmericanNebula. Took about 12 minutes to be able to have a complete image to process. Apparently in equatorial mode you can’t do more than 2x zoom. Good enough for me at this point. #seestar #S50 #space #astronomy #amateur
