#Sigen #Solar WARNING

We recently got an email from our installer saying there was a recall on Sigen inverters, and didn't think too much of it - recalls schmecalls.

Then yesterday our inverter stopped dead - no lights and failed over to grid supply. Our awesome installers (Cromwell's Infinite Energy, cannot recommend highly enough) whistled around this morning, and guess what - it was the recall issue!

Turns the AC (mains) connector between the inverter and the house was some kind of plug. Because Aurora now allow us to return 8kW (used to be 5kW) to the grid, this carries A LOT of current, and the plug had melted. Luckily it melted open circuit so everything just stopped, including the resistive heating that caused the melting and could have caused a fire.

To give Sigen their due, they are replacing these inverters with a new model with bolted lug connections, all under warranty. Infinite Energy brought one of these new models and thanks to Sigen's modular design, we were back up and running in an hour, safely exporting our healthy Otago sunshine juice to NZ's grid.

BUT if you have a Sigen 8-10-12kW inverter, and your export limit has recently risen above 5kW, CHECK WITH YOUR SUPPLIER AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. This recall really is important.
