There was that absolutely gutting moment in the excellent “Sunderland ‘Til I Die” series, having just narrowly lost a final & missing promotion, when a tearful woman in an emptying Wembley stadium asks rhetorically, “why is it never us?”

Ever since, my son & I have kept tabs on them & quietly hoped for better days.
This win today at Wembley, coming from behind, & securing promotion to the Premier League is such a happy bookend. I hope her tears today are of that of joy.
