Thank you to all who came out to SF ZineFest yesterday 🌟 It was crowded from start to finish, with most people properly masking (as requested), making it easier to feel joy instead of anxiety about the crowd. I feel like there is a real fire in people to seek free, independent and diverse voices in this time. And to celebrate art and community.
Much appreciation to the organizers for all their hard work

Well, I'm disappointed to hear that I didn't get into this year's SF Zine Fest. The last two years were really lovely. I'm wait-listed, but doubt I'll get to go. Oh well.

In today's #inkyDays drawing, I was playing with ink combinations.

Here's an in-progress shot.

And then she said that she had thought of science as something she didn't enjoy in school.

But that my work, and talking about it with her, was making her want to learn more. That it gave her new ways of thinking...I'm paraphrasing, as she said it so much better.

I was nearly crying...happy tears...such happy tears, when our conversation paused, and she walked away.

That conversation alone was the very best moment of the #SFZineFest for me.

The very last person I spoke with while showing my artworks at the #SFZineFest today was the whole reason why I keep going out and showing my work in public events.

She was drawn to my work. I gave her space to look, and when she was ready to ask questions I explained some of my inspirations, including my studies is biology and biochemistry.

We talked for a while. It was the end of the day. I was exhausted.

But then she asked me more questions.

the #SFZineFest today, I told folks about my newsletter and that I was trying to move away from corporate social media and connect more directly.

Most seemed to appreciate this.

Some knew about Mastodon, a few had accounts but were not active. Some were curious, and I offered to help them find an instance and get started.

A few were already active on Mastodon and were interested in following me here.

This was an event with tons of folks who should be able to find safe spaces here.

The #SFZineFest was awesome. Even if zines aren't your thing if you like alt-press and small press it's worth it. Also you may get into zines.

It's even worth driving in San Francisco . . . though it might be wiser to take public transport.

Just got home from the #SFZineFest, and I'm completely exhausted. Happy, but completely exhausted :)

Ok, I've picked out and packed up what I'm bringing to #SFZineFest tomorrow. Just doing busywork, to wind down before trying to sleep.

Mostly, I'm bringing my hand drawn ink pieces, but at the last moment I decided to add a few #CreaativeCoding pieces. They're on the top of this box.
