I figure with graphics hardware being what it is these days, I can afford to actually model out the details that were only ever implied by textures before. Do realtime artists still sweat details like making stop signs out of 6 tris and cleaning up geometry from bevels?

Fun fact: the DIRT demo's node door isn't a vertically-moving plug like in Myst V. It's a two-piece rotating cylinder that has two thicker quarters and two thinner quarters. When you open the door, the thicker quarters rotate 45º, and the thinner quarters rotate another 45º to sink into the thicker ones. I quite like the look of it, so I'm using it in my recreation. #myst #uru #sandgame #gamedev #3d
