Been busy with the new job so I haven't posted a #RulerOfRoguemount update in awhile, but that doesn't mean I haven't been making improvements! In an effort to improve stability I've decided to do a bunch of refactoring and test writing.

This is a clip of ~50 of the new integration tests running in about 8 seconds. Each test runs a stripped-down version of the main game scene, then tests and verifies a single behavior.

I've marked the video as sensitive because it flashes a fair bit!

Haven't been posting much in #RulerOfRoguemount because I've been busy interviewing for jobs (unsuccessfully so far, but I'm not out of leads yet!). I managed to motivate myself to get started on the introduction/tutorial, which means I had to make a lot of UI elements like these!

Been a minute since the last #RulerOfRoguemount post, mostly because I've been dealing with under-the-hood improvements that don't make for good screen captures. Today, however, I have something new! This is the third unit type, the Adventurer! They are the only unit capable of combat with monsters, and will hunt them down if it thinks it can win the confrontation.

Lots of refactoring of the serialization/saving-and-loading system in #RulerOfRoguemount this week, so unfortunately I haven't had many screenshots to post. This refactor should make it significantly easier to write tests for both the individual parts of the saving and loading scheme, as well as the entire save and load process.

As a bonus, it will make it fairly trivial to create contrived "scenario" saves that players will be able to load in and try to work with!

I've somehow wound up falling into a pattern of planning my week's work on #RulerOfRoguemount on Saturdays, and today's no exception.

This week I'm planning to focus on the third friendly unit type, the Adventurer! These units are the first combat-capable friendly units, and as such they're going to have rather complicated state machines. The will be able to hunt monsters for profit, purchase upgrades and consumables, and hire themselves out to other units as escorts into monster-inhabited areas of the Mines.

I've added skin variations, damage numbers, health bars, and a brief stun to #RulerOfRoguemount and I'm loving how it's coming together.

In the early game (as pictured here) units should be able to escape from monsters pretty comfortably, but thanks to the new stun delay and a bit of bad luck navigating some geometry, this unit barely makes it out of the bat's chase radius!

Added some damage indicator placeholders to #RulerOfRoguemount now that units can actually take damage and even die.

This is my first official week of unemployment; I had two months' warning that it was coming and so far only managed two callbacks out of 100+ applications sent out. Fortunately the place I'm interviewing at now seems pretty interested! Unfortunately, they're taking quite a while to make a final decision which is just great for the ol' anxiety machine.

So to cope, I've been spending way too much time doing #GameDev! Tonight I couldn't sleep because I sent off an email asking for an update yesterday and never heard back so now I'm worried I killed my chances. In this spirit, units in #RulerOfRoguemount can now die, and leave gravestones behind when they do!
