As mentioned by @srvanderplas, and assuming you got the version for "Ubuntu 22" from @Posit

$ /usr/bin/rstudio

You will see that there is a log in ~/.local/share/rstudio/log/rdesktop.log that might provide more details.

Also in the same dir, there are "rsession-*.log" files containing logs from prev #RStas/#RStudio sessions

At some point when I was playing with a tiling WM in Ubuntu 18.04, I managed to get it so RStudio will bomb. It worked w/ the regular DM/WM.
