#FensterFreitag Here's a wee granite cave with a window 😎 #Mull #RossOfMullGranite
This afternoon πŸš£β€β™‚οΈ rowed😊 to one of the smallest of the old Ross of Mull Granite quarries, at Rudh' nam Buthan, where around 1890, a rather greyish granite was worked to build the Baptist church in Bunessan. The church makes lovely use of this stone, combined with more normal pink Ross of Mull granite, and a basalt from an as-yet-unidentified source. #Mull #RossOfMullGranite #BuildingStones #Quarry
#DogWalkingGeology from this morning. Here's a lovely wee layer of pale blue elongate kyanite crystals, pale pink elongate andalusite, plus some wee brown round garnets, in schist from Ardalanish Bay. Although the andalusite and kyanite look happy together, they are not actually in equilibrium: this layer has "frozen" during the slow process of converting kyanite to andalusite. Reactions are all about the kinetics! #Metastable #Mull #Moine #RossOfMullGranite #Geology #Minerals #Al2SiO5 #Kinetics
My 96 year old boat (built by my grandfather) being towed round to our new home today, following repairs and renovation by Mark on Iona. Great to have her back seaworthy again 😊 πŸ’ƒ πŸ•Ί πŸŽ‰ Thanks to Mark, Stuart, Laurie, John and Gordon for help with the transport πŸ™ πŸ‘ #Mull #RossOfMullGranite
