Last year at this time I was reeling from cancelling my first solo photography exhibit. A gallery I used to volunteer with in Portland when I lived there totally changed my artistic statement without my consent, so I said fuck that.

The week I was there I ended up putting around to see if there was anything I actually missed about PDX. There was remarkably little, like this ‘63 Dynamic 88 at a repair shop, a few record stores, Bröder..

I look back to move on, I’m trying to ignore that my biggest supporter then is opening his own photo exhibit a year to the day that I did not. I remember that my desire to see the world is perhaps never gonna meet academic gallery space criteria and just keep at it.

Let the sterility of such spaces be for those that regurgitate the same vision, knowing damn well they’re ghosts where I take chances to capture life.

This year's inductees include some highly notable recordings. My decision to post this was based in large part on it including one of my own all-time favorite recordings, the debut eponymous album by The Cars. “Rocket ‘88’” by Jackie Brenston and His Delta Cats was not only one of the key records in rock 'n' roll history but it was also the introduction for most of us to Ike Turner. The Library of Congress can't do everything at once; but it is still surprising that "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" by Gene Autry wasn't already in the registry. Then there's "Pieces of Africa" by the Kronos Quartet. This list reminds me to look into Bill Withers.

Each of us might quibble over an entry or two; but overall, this is a very impressive list.
