Unlike the London Undergound it's entirely subterranean, and when it first opened, it used a cable-hauled system, meaning it was much cleaner as the tunnels weren't filled with the smoke from steam locomotives.

Love this painted glass panel in one of the original Glasgow Subway carriages in the city's Riverside Museum. Opened in 1896, the Glasgow underground lies between 7 feet (at Kinning Park) and 155 feet (beneath the West End) below the city, and was the first in the world to be referred to as a subway.

This evening's sunset looking down the Clyde from the new park in the former Govan Graving Docks in Glasgow.

I was intrigued by the re-appearance of this cast-iron mooring point during the current excavation work next to the car park of the Riverside Museum in Glasgow. While it's now far from the edge of the Clyde, it marks what was once the northern end of the West Basin of Yorkhill Quay (see maps) before it was filled in in the 1980s.

After a beautiful spring day here in Glasgow, the Clyde looked just as beautiful at nightfall, with the sunset reflecting off the modern buildings of the city's waterfront .

The Tall Ship, the amazing Glenlee, moored on the River Clyde beside the Riverside Museum in Glasgow, not all that far from where she was built in 1896. More pics and info: https://www.undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/glasgow/tallship/index.html

The irony, of course, is that the Riverside Museum in home to Glasgow's transport museum, and there had previously been talk about seeing if these lines could be used to run a heritage tram along this section of the waterfront.

Old tram lines (I think) running along the north bank of the Clyde in Glasgow photographed January 2025 (top), and the same lines photographed today. They've been removed as part of work currently going on between the old Queen's Dock Hydraulic Pump house and the Riverside Museum. Until this happened, this was probably the longest surviving stretch of tram lines left in the city.

The Glasgow Transport Museum's Infinite Velodrome. This is a metal Möbius Strip hanging from the ceiling of Zaha Hadid's magnificent Riverside Museum building displaying all sorts of bicycles from different eras of cycling.
