#Apple's Ferret #AI described in Spyglass newsletter reminds of https://www.rewind.ai/.

I was testing #RewindAI couple months ago, and realised that the logical next evolution for apps like this is not only to observe what you are doing with your computer, but learn and start to do some of those tasks on your behalf.

Also no surprise that this is something Apple would Sherlock and aim to do on-device without using cloud based LLMs.

If you have problems remembering things you did on your computer recently, meeting highlights and/or taking notes, I highly recommend giving Rewind a shot (Mac only). Found it on Product Hunt, and it's a game changer. Not only does it locally record what you do so you can reference/search for it later, but it can also transcribe and summarize your meetings. The meeting summary in particular has been a real game changer for me. It just took a 30 minute call and summarized with concise bullet points all of the key items we talked about it. HUGE. Made it super easy to share with my team. https://www.rewind.ai

#RewindAi update:
been running it for about a month now.
Turns out it's a lot like backups, you very rarely need them, but when you do they're great. I've used it ~10 times.

From a privacy perspective it's good in that it's not sending them all the data but bad in that it's fucking terrifying that it's recording EVERYTHING including sessions on the bank web site, chats with my wife and close friends, etc.

I realized I should be able to compensate for the #RewindAI requirement of playing twister on my desktop by programming a macro into my keyboard.

This screenshot is what #Kinesis believed was sufficient instructions.🤦‍♀️

For those curious, here are the instructions for writing a ZMK macro: https://zmk.dev/docs/behaviors/macros

Also, the "macros" portion of their GUI keyboard layout editor does not accept ZMK macros...

ARRRGH.

Summary

Trying #RewindAI out. First problem: this seems to be the only way to invoke the UI that lets you scrub back and forth through time. You can't change the shortcut for it.

I, like many professionals, type on a real keyboard, with a real mouse, with the laptop off to the side.

This invocation requires 2 hands too, so i have to twist to the right, reach awkwardly over with my left arm dramatically across to my right side. It's uncomfortable, awkward, and basically means I can't use that feature.

Was pondering #RewindAi again because new job will have me spending _most_ of the day solo with no-one available to ask questions of. great for focus, terrible when you need help. Figured being able to access everything that came up via RewindAI would potentially be really useful.

the $10 plan is only "10 rewinds per month"

That's a uselessly small number. There's a $30 a month plan with Unlimited Rewinds, which is fine. But, I don't know why that $10 plan exists.

https://rewind.ai recently introduced an actually reasonable use of ChatGPT which is to have it help you intelligently find things you've seen in your stream of data.

This is, obviously, a big security concern if you have NDA stuff on your computer, but I asked support about it and they said "We will not opt-in to share data with OpenAI".
