This Frutiger Aero derived UI is the ultimate retro computing expression.

Many Apple users weren't here last time, so this will be new for them, and they might even enjoy it 😉🤷‍♂️

The Mac M5 will ship in translucent bondai blue plastic case or in a G4 body with the articulated monitor 🤣

I think I should learn the piano! What do you think? DataBecker got you covered in the very early 1990s. A piano tutorial for the Amiga 500. that can’t be bad, can it?

Bret Victor's "Future of Computing" talk is approaching its 10th birthday, so here it is for folks who may have missed it first time around: https://invidious.zapashcanon.fr/watch?v=8pTEmbeENF4

> The '60s and early '70s were a fertile time for #computerscience ideas, reminds Victor, but even more importantly, it was a time of unfettered thinking, unconstrained by programming #dogma, #authority, and #tradition. 'The most dangerous thought that you can have as a #creative person is to think that you know what you're doing,' explains Victor. 'Because once you think you know what you're doing you stop looking around for other ways of doing things and you stop being able to see other ways of doing things. You become blind.' He concludes, 'I think you have to say: "We don't know what programming is. We don't know what computing is. We don't even know what a computer is." And once you truly understand that, and once you truly believe that, then you're free, and you can think anything.'"

Bret Victor The Future of Programming

"The most dangerous thought you can have as a creative person is to think you know what you're doing." Presented at Dropbox's DBX conference on July 9, 2013. All of the slides are available at: http://worrydream.com/dbx/ For his recent DBX Conference talk, Victor took attendees back to the year 1973, donning the uniform of an IBM systems engineer of the times, delivering his presentation on an overhead projector. The '60s and early '70s were a fertile time for CS ideas, reminds Victor, but even more importantly, it was a time of unfettered thinking, unconstrained by programming dogma, authority, and tradition. 'The most dangerous thought that you can have as a creative person is to think that you know what you're doing,' explains Victor. 'Because once you think you know what you're doing you stop looking around for other ways of doing things and you stop being able to see other ways of doing things. You become blind.' Really delighted with the #retrocomouting #refurb in progress by fellow #Dubliner @rethrowcomputing https://archive.is/opLCB on my first computer, an #Atari800. The machine was running well, but my choice to have it refubed was a sensible one. That #capacitor was getting well out of spec! "...the 470uF one in the picture measuring over 570! (A ticking time bomb)"

I'm curious to read that #permacomputing frowns on #retrocomouting as nostalgia-based[1]. I think much of the interest in the latter is driven by revisiting excellent ideas that have been neglected[2]. Software design is heavily fashion-driven.
