While the Tuskegee Airmen broke barriers, their teacher, Willa Beatrice Brown, broke more. She was the 1st African American woman to earn a pilot's license in the US, the 1st African American woman to run for the US Congress, 1st African American officer in the Civil Air Patrol, and 1st woman in the US to have both a pilot's license and an aircraft mechanic's license." ~ Wikipedia contributors. She figured very distantly in a reparational tree I worked on a few years back. I worked heavily on her profile in FamilySearch - FSID #G3NZ-3BK. #BlackHistoryMonth #WomensHistory #BlackExcellence #ReparationalGenealogy

Ancestors Alive! Genealogy
@corbden It's an excellent way to be of service, accumulate knowledge that can be reused for many, and you know - smash some racism in ourselves & others along the way. I'm glad it makes sense to you! Some folks don't see how ANY expertise can be consecrated to reparations. #geneadons #genealogy #ReparationalGenealogy
@supergrrl7 #ReparationalGenealogy is the term I coined back in 2014 or 2015. I explain it on my website, https://ancestorsalivegenealogy.com/the-reparational-genealogy-project/ . It's a subset of Social Justice Genealogy, I think.
The Reparational Genealogy Project

The Reparational Genealogy Project is the product of years of trying to figure out how to provide reparations while having an empty bank account. I don’t have money, but I have skills. I&#821…

Ancestors Alive! Genealogy

@leopardboy Right on, Matt!! Check out my website and particularly read the #ReparationalGenealogy pages. You can see where I am on a range of projects. I need me some Mormons, too - we have an extra function in Ancestry that lets us transfer entire profiles with a few clicks, citations included! See what you think.

I have plenty of enslavers, too. I mark them as such in my tree, husband & wife both. It's my way of calling them out & helping others find their enslaved ancestors' migrations.

@Cauliflower I do #ReparationalGenealogy too. Are you using #Ancestry, #FamilySearch, or both together?
If you are #LDS #Mormon and White, you can help with The #ReparationalGenealogy Project - there are people who want trees created on Ancestry, or existing trees vetted, and then to have those trees transferred to #FamilySearch. It's part of #reparations to make #FamilyTrees available, free, for everyone descended of slavery & free ppl of color. And FS has records that Ancestry doesn't. Want to help? Let me know! #Geneadons
The only original part of #ReparationalGenealogy is the idea that White US researchers should do pro bono work for those descended of the enslaved & free people of color. Even those whose ancestors didn't enslave owe a debt for an economy built on enslaved labor. It's back wages in human form. So, I ask White people to reach in deep & be mensches. #Geneadons
