After using pretty much every RSS reader there is, I think i've finally settled on #Readkit as the one which has a combination of the best support for both FreshRSS and Wallabag, and my favorite rendering engine. I very much like Readkit's ability to add tags when saving to Wallabag.

(2/3)

I've been testing out #ReadKit (on Mac at first) for the first time in a long time after hearing @jsnell & @ismh86 discuss it on @upgrade this week. I still am primarily a user of @NetNewsWire, but I thought it was worth a look. I primarily like the UI and support for smart folders in ReadKit. One thing I've grown accustomed to in NNW is (on Mac & iPad) is the use of ⌘ Command - apostrophe to clear read items from the list. I like to periodically clean up after myself without having to switch to another view or refresh the article list. It's a small thing, but I find myself hung up on it in use of ReadKit and haven't found the same functionality there.

Anyone know of such a key combo in ReadKit?

UPDATE: I guess typing this out convinced myself that I'm being lazy, so I went hunting and there's an option clear as day. Under the 'Group' menu (which doesn't really register for me as a thing... I don't think of these as groups, but 🤷), there is an option for the 'C' to clear read items.

Sometimes self-hosting programs don't work the way they need to.

Right now I'm trying to get my WallaBag install to be the RIL tool for my ReadKit app on iOS.

So luck so far.

Anyone have experience with this?

Walla is running on a VPS with Yunohost.

I helped someone learn the joys of RSS feeds today.

I am so thankful the tool exists that helps me curate my own internet experience… I can stay up to date in ways I couldn’t before, and I’m seeing updates to things that I would have lost without it.

I am following so many lovely artist bloggers, and when folks make new posts I don’t have to worry about missing the notification they have a new one that they shared on some social media walled garden whose algorithm hides it from me because it has an external link.

My reader isn’t fancy (It’s called ReadKit and it’s for Apple) but it keeps me informed.

Now to encourage people to stop using platforms to share their stuff and start using their own websites. I shouldn’t need to join some company’s silo container to see your latest news.

Here’s my blog. Type in the web address into your reader. It’ll set you up.

Really like how my new self-hosted Wallabag instance works together with the ReadKit app. Cross device, beautiful design, no vendor lock-in.

RSS App recommendation:

I switched from NetNewsWire to ReadKit.

Mainly because I can adjust text size preciesely. It is a pleasant experience so far. And it is a universal app. With a one-time payment option.

It also supports "Read it later" platforms and can work as a reading list too! With multiple accounts.

I recently switched from #Reeder to #ReadKit for my #RSS, and OMG I’m loving the smart folders feature.

My favorite smart folder is ‘Important Local News’. I’m tired of sensationalist news and overall nonsense. This smart folder only lets critical or weather news pass based on specific keywords relevant to me.

Another big plus is having a purple theme and app icon 💜

I also put a lot of thought into importing lots of articles. The latest beta includes a proper download queue, so you should be able to throw your big #Instapaper or #ReadKit archive at the #Flyleaf importer without worries.
