@mwichary #NetNewsWire preserves old posts I added to my ⭐️ list. I like the idea of commemorating them somehow.

In the Today list would be nice, or a dedicated “On this day” smart list or somehow pinned within the Starred list. 🤔

Pushing up a new version of my #NetNewsWire theme.

With JavaScript enabled this version applies some niceties especially for untitled feed items.

Speaking of news.. Can anyone recommend a decent #RSS reader for #iOS? There’s a lot of amazing small apps cropping up left and right these days and most go under my radar.

For your reference - I’m ancient, Obused the likes of #NetNewsWire and #Feedly back when they were still new.

Or why it does not work for my reading habits.

@glennf I used to sit in meetings and make css for #netnewswire to dress up my feed reading

NetNewsWire - NetNewsWire Now Getting Feed Images from RSS

In NetNewsWire 7.0.5 we made a change to get the feed image from RSS via the image element. Weren’t we already doing this? Seems surprising that we weren’t! It’s because, historically, these images were often rectangular — but the app wants square images. These days, probably due to the influence of mobile apps, images tend to be square, which is great. It means we can use these. Note to feed publishers We suggest checking your feeds to see if they are supplying an image URL.

@natematias
I’ve also found that NetNewsWire is very good at discovering an rss or Atom feed if one exists, given just a base URL.

Many public sites don’t advertise their RSS / Atom support, so it’s worth a try.

Edit: My previous fix of ByeDoom isn't working on other channels. I'm flummoxed. Maybe it's time to just go back to (only) books. The internet sucks too much of life anyway.

I'm trying to reduce #YouTube time, which for me means using an RSS reader to check my favorite channels rather than going to YouTube directly. By doing this I reduce distractions (and #RSS is glorious anyway).

I used to be able to just put the channel URL into #NetNewsWire and it would pick it up, but that doesn't seem to work now. I found instructions for how to use Command-F to find the channel ID in the page source, but that didn't work either. I've tried a few other things (adding /feeds/video.xml to the URL) and no luck.

In another weird twist: I already have some YouTube channel feeds in my reader. They're updating normally. But if I copy that feed's url and put it into my browser window? It says YouTube can't find the feed. What the heck?

Has anyone had luck following YouTube channels with RSS?
