So this weekend #WildflowerHour asked for #SignsOfSpring and at #Ravensroost Wood I saw my first Goat Willow flowers of the year. If you think the branches are at an odd angle, you're right. Time for some more #Dragonfly action. Last weekend was a bit of a washout but earlier I got to my favourite #Wiltshire #WildlifeTrust nature reserve, #Ravensroost Wood. The #OrchidChallenge proved a bit tough this week - mainly seeing leaves not flowers. But #Ravensroost Wood is reliable for Common Spotted Orchid and the first few of them were out. Phew! #WildflowerHour #Wiltshire #Bloomscrolling #botany #plants #flowers #wildflowers #photography

This was rather an exciting find. Common Spotted Orchid is common at #Ravensroost. Early Purple does turn up as well. Those are the only two orchids I've ever seen there. Until yesterday, when I was walking across the meadow to get to the pond and found a couple of Green-winged Orchid. #Wiltshire #Bloomscrolling #botany #plants #flowers #wildflowers #photography

Finally it's #dragonfly season here in the UK! My first of the year was this male Broad-bodied Chaser who was dominating the larger of the meadow ponds at the #Wiltshire #WildlifeTrust reserve at #Ravensroost Meadows. I also saw lots of Large Red Damselfly at the pond, a decent number of recently-emerged Common Blue in the neighbouring woodland and an Azure Damselfly at a nearby site. Plus heard my first Garden Warbler of the year singing in the woods. What a day.
