Migrate Your Own Mail Server (MYOMS)

Migrating from a very old Mail Server to the newest Modoboa versions

@r Polished my setup a bit. Everyone’s happy except Outlook.com. So there’s absolutely no actionable intelligence in that report, or is there?

I've enjoyed following @rfcs. It's a steady reminder of the history I've lived through, what came before me, and alternate histories not taken.

But it just threw RFC 3463 at me, and: TOO SOON, BOT, TOO SOON. #ryoms

@markstos @jwildeboer @homelab for me I self host what makes sense to me. I have #nextcloud #immich #forgejo #jellyfin #keycloak #audiobookshelf . my current goal is to have email #ryoms
@mwl #RYOMS is currently being used to supplement my migration off my cellphone to great success. Its interesting to think of my hobby mail server as a thing that is helping me disconnect from my cell phone addiction.

As the owner / operator / postmaster of a tiny little email server, I find that sometimes, but rarely, outbound mail can get blocked and bounced. It happens. Once a decade or so. Some organizations use a sledgehammer to avoid unknown senders like me, even though I provision all the industry standards authentication tools and protective protocols.

So this evening, I forwarded the "offending" email to the administrator of the receiving site, politely explaining how this Nigerian princess just wants to give his customer US$30 million in gold to transfer $3 billion through his bank.

Something like that.

I’m seeing tons of the following in the mail-server logs. Anyone know what’s up there? Just the usual or a Xmas-special?

sm-mta[215926]: [45.148.10.25] did not issue MAIL/EXPN/VRFY/ETRN during connection to MSP-v4
sm-mta[215930]: [45.148.10.29] did not issue MAIL/EXPN/VRFY/ETRN during connection to MSP-v4
sm-mta[216460]: [178.16.55.124] did not issue MAIL/EXPN/VRFY/ETRN during connection to MTA-v4

Public re-post, I accidentally made this private rather than unlisted:

I'm looking for a new mail provider because my small Swiss provider doesn't support #ipv6 and my home network has now been IPv6-only for a year. My requirements

- full IPv6 support for web and mail (which rules out maibox.org which still only uses IPv4 for certain parts of their web sites and runbox which is IPv4 only)

- Switzerland or Europe based

- IMAP and SMTP support (which rules out Proton)

- Support for + sub-addresses (which rules out Hostpint in Switzerland)

- Privacy friendly, no AI training in my mails, no ads. Preferably no AI features at all (not sure whether this rules out Infomaniak who advertise some AI on the website)

- Preferably has a mail only offer for multiple users without any cloud office features

- Support for hosting my own mail domains (i.e. not Posteo)

And I don't plan to self-host because I don't have the time, even though @Michael W Lucas :flan_on_fire:'s #RYOMS is still on my stack of yet to be read books.

Any ideas?

hello lazy web, I'm looking for solutions / DNS providers that support hosting Reverse IPV6 DNS zones . I would like to take control over my IPV6 #rDNS hosting for hosting my own #email server over IPV6.

Not keen on hosting my own primary DNS service yet.
