R package gdalraster was updated on CRAN a few days ago and binaries for Windows and macOS are now available. v.2.4.0 is a small feature release since we needed to update URLs for the repo and website. It does add several new wrappers for the GDAL spatial reference API, and a few other enhancements. A full changelog with the new URL is at:

Woot woot! Just seen this shared on pangeo and it looks like ESA's JPEG2000 files are getting TLM markers! This should speed things up a good bit when using CDSE STAC! #rspatial #GDAL

More generally, motivation is an example case for better understanding how R spatial community can provide feedback/support/contribute upstream regarding spatial libs in RTools. #duckdb spatial folks - am I being an idiot or is it really not possible to save a parquet file with an SRS other than WGS84? I am assuming (hoping) I'm wrong about that because its quite annoying... maybe #rspatial peeps might have some idea also?
