So I am roughly 95% towards burnout & super unhappy w/ what my role has become. Started looking around for a new job. Which means I am back in the hell of:

- discovering dozens of Senior Data Analyst roles that are actually Senior Data Eng, or, worse, AI annotation
- Remote and Hybrid roles that aren't
- UNPAID (!) jobs
- being on my eighth Workday account
- Full Time Senior roles that are actually internships
- typing *everything I just uploaded* again, into a JavaScript form from 2009

🥲🤢🤬

@robyn similar for me, except I'm looking for robotics and autonomous vehicles. "AI" used to mean something different only a few years ago.

@grim_elsewhere Right!?

Years ago, I actually published a paper on "AI" (... in games), and have worked with ML models - can't even have a nuanced conversation about either anymore because the entire industry now equates "AI" with LLM's / genAI. It's insane.

Also, I wish you the best of luck. 🫡

@robyn Thank you! You too.
@robyn @grim_elsewhere Yes! I'm observing this in the creative field as well! I want to work on human-created projects, and so many people jump to "well then don't use spell checker or grammer checker or spreadsheets...."
Um no. Those are not "AI" in common current parlance. (1/2)

And also, the market is completely inundated with undisclosed AI slop. I had to turn down an offer recently because when I started reading the script, it became apparent very quickly that it was written by a machine.
Not a human.
Not a monkey.
A machine.

(The above has become too common a writing trope and a clear red flag.) (2/2)

@WanderingHuman It has truly invaded so many fields, it's bizarre.

I never, ever thought I would regret going into the data space - it feels like everything around me has been turned upside down. All the software dev tenets of the last decades (security, performance, maintainability) are COMPLETELY out the window and everyone pretends that that's normal!?!??

I wish you the best of luck in your search!! May we both find something that is a good fit.

@robyn We are certainly living in strange times.

@robyn how about helping to create an educational org that makes multimedia software for kids?

making edu software is a fast track to becoming poor, but you'd have a lot more fun than getting rich in corporate IT! :D

@vga256 ok I love *most* of the words in your post 😁😂

@robyn 😆 education is great at so many things except that one small problem. i worked at UA for many years 😭

if you ever get sick of corp work and want to think out loud about what educational software would look like, i'm always up for a coffee/tea!

the great thing about being miserable at work is getting to think about what else you could be doing with life.

@robyn Is the typing into a form better or worse than when they try to extract the information from what you just uploaded and everything is horribly wrong and you have to go brought and figure out what to correct? Like mixing up fields and when you were at various places because apparently your dev formatting wasn't perfectly what the software expected?

@SRLevine You know what - they're both worse 🤣

I had one a while back where it extracted every single bullet point that I had added for each role (like "responsibilities," "impact," yadda yadda) from my CV *as a separate job I held* with completely bogus dates, descriptions, of course

so that took a while to clean up.....

@robyn oh man. So many workday accounts

@robyn I wish there were a few more senior spatial data analyst jobs out there. Especially ones that used #rspatial and not esri.

Good luck with your search.
