Marvel Rivals Season 5 celebrates love but falls short on queer representation.

Fans praise Loki and Mantis ship but call out the lack of explicit queer couples compared to straight ones.

Will future updates change that?

New series of Married at First Sight UK. The #gay couple Davide and Keye are soooo sweet, and they both seem like decent guys. I hope it works out for them!

There's also a #lesbian couple (I think one lesbian and one #bisexual woman, to be accurate). We haven't seen their wedding yet. 🏳️‍🌈

Pride Walk – Roze Maandag, Tilburg Kermis (Part 3)
“Don’t Be a Drag, Just Be a Queen”

As Lady Gaga sang it — and these queens lived it — the Pride Walk in Tilburg gave center stage to the art, power, and flamboyant joy of drag.

These photos are a tribute to the performers who graced the streets in towering heels, layers of glitter, and personalities even bigger than their wigs. Some looks were polished to perfection, others wonderfully over-the-top — but each one was a bold, beautiful statement of visibility and celebration.

Drag is not just entertainment — it's protest, expression, performance, and empowerment. It challenges norms, flips gender expectations, and radiates self-love in every shimmering sequin. As I weaved through the crowd (without bumping a soul, thank you very much 😄), I couldn’t help but feel both admiration and awe for these living works of art.

Shot with my Canon 5D Mark III and Sigma 100–400mm lens, I tried to capture the poise, humor, and pure joy that these queens brought to Roze Maandag. From confident poses to spontaneous laughter — this was Pride in motion.

Because in a world that often tries to dull our shine, drag reminds us: it’s okay to take up space, to be seen, and to be fabulous doing it.

‘Brighter Than Scale, Swifter Than Flame’ by Neon Yang.

Cover art by Tran Nguyen.

I’ve been feeling a bit disillusioned with fantasy lately, but I took a chance on this novella (partly because it was a novella) because of the beautiful cover art. I really enjoyed this story of self-discovery and identity that reminded me in some ways of Yoon Ha Lee’s ‘Phoenix Extravagant’. Yeva is a very relatable character shaped by circumstances outside of her control, and only just learning how to make her own choices.

There is a definite sense of the damaging effects of colonialism, and how removing a child from one culture and putting them in a situation where they are forced to conform to another culture’s rules and expectations - whilst simultaneously being othered - strips them of agency and prevents them from developing a healthy sense of self.

The romance element is very gentle and subdued and centred on the loneliness of the two main characters and is as much about a blossoming and unexpected friendship as it is about attraction.

Features disability representation of both acquired hand deformity and chronic illness.

The lovely Twiglet is, as usual, keeping me company.

Q. Have you read any good novellas, novelettes, or short stories lately?
